You can now tag your location on Threads. Here’s how

The Meta's Threads

Meta, the social tech company backing Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Threads, is rolling out the option to add/tag your location to your Threads posts. When the feature is available for you, a pin will appear in the post composer; if you click on that pin. you'll be able to tag your location on your post. Some Threads users have reported seeing the feature available in their Threads’ app, though it doesn’t seem to be available to everyone just yet.

However, it's important to keep in mind that when you add your location to a Threads post, it won’t show your precise spot on a map. Instead, it just indicates the general area or city you're in, without pinpointing your exact coordinates. For example, it'll share if you're in a location like a city name, a neighborhood, or a restaurant, a gas station, a church and more.

In addition to this upcoming feature, it let user that see another person's post that includes a location sees other posts from the same place. To do just that, you can simply tap on the appeared location to view more other posts from the same area.

You can also click on pin in the post composer to see a range of options including as staying broad by tagging yourself in United Kingdom (UK) (even if that’s not where you live) and selecting more specific locations within that region. That's to say, you can also manually search for a place. For example, we have seen a few users already jokingly tagged their Threads posts as “hell.”

Meta includes an in-app disclaimer stating that location sharing will be used to help personalize the Threads experience. By sharing your location, Threads can show you more relevant content about nearby places. This could also improve the app's search functionality, which has been lacking, and make it more useful for staying updated on breaking news and timely events happening around you.

Meta Threads Location Tagging Feature

Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Facebook, emphasized the social media company plans to continue growing the Threads service before bringing ads to the platform. However, getting users’ consent to sharing locations would provide an important bit of information for the company’s ad machine. That's to say, it'll give Meta valuable data that can enhance its advertising system.

The Meta Threads's Location Tagging feature seems to be appearing only Android and iOS mobile users for now. The feature has already been confirmed on iOS devices and Android phones but it's not been sighted on the web at the moment this article is published. Hopefully, it won't be much longer before it becomes available in desktop browsers.

Does adding location on Instagram Reels helps? Of course, it does help; the feature is similar to location tagging on Instagram and if you’ve tagged your location in an Instagram post, Threads’ approach on location tagging should feel pretty familiar to you.
